Walking
There are many attractive walks on Seil. The Heritage Centre in Ellanbeich sells excellent.detailed descriptions of the best of these. Bring stout shoes or boots and remember to close all gates, take nothing but photographs and leave nothing but footprints.
Fishing
We can offer advice on where to fish from the shore, and on trout fishing in the lochs. We have some tackle available.
Wildlife and Nature
Seil is a haven for wildlife. Just walking around the island you are likely to see seals, otters, herons and maybe a sea eagle. The Seil Natural History Group orgainse guided walks and meetings which are open to non-members for a small fee. For a close-up look at the seas life round the coast, why not take a boat trip? (See below).
Boat Trips
Regular ferries to Luing and Easdale allow you to explore these two islands as well, each with its unique character. Trips further afield are available from Ellenabeich by fast RIB to the Corryvreckan whirlpool, or at a slightly slower pace on the well-equipped MV Porpoise based in Clachan Sound. Look out for seals, dolphins, whales and basking sharks. Details of these trips can be found on our Links page.
Gardens
The gardens at An Cala and Ardmaddy both benefit from the proximity of the gulf stream. They are open most of the year and are well worth visiting.
Golf
There is a challenging and unusual 9-hole links golf course at Balvicar. A day’s membership is £12, and we have clubs available for guests.
